Overview

Known popularly as the vampire facial, PRP (platelet rich plasma) therapy takes a patient’s own blood and spins it in a centrifuge to separate out its components. From there, the platelet rich plasma component is treated with a small amount of calcium to increase the healing process. The PRP is injected into the problem areas of the face to cause inflammation, which stimulates the skin’s healing process. The platelets release enzymes to initiate healing to cause new collagen to develop. The collagen will tighten and strengthen the treatment area for improved skin. Inland Empire board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Childers and our specialists obtain outstanding results with this treatment for patients with lines and wrinkles, uneven or rough texture, lost volume, and/or scars. Usually, 2 – 3 treatments are needed and results can last up to two years.

How it Works

Originally used in orthopedic medicine, reconstructive surgery, and dentistry, the principles of PRP therapy have been applied in dermatology for skin rejuvenation. A small amount of blood is drawn from the patient and then spun in a special centrifuge until the platelets and growth factors are concentrated, which turns it into platelet-rich plasma (PRP). The prepared PRP is then applied to the face for 15–20 minutes as it stimulates the growth of new collagen and tissue.

Expected Results

PRP stimulates collagen growth for facial rejuvenation that helps to improve wrinkles, puffiness under the eyes, as well as enhancing the overall skin tone, texture, and elasticity. For the first 1-3 days after the procedure, patients may have some mild swelling, redness, and bruising. Patients will begin to see improvements to their skin in about 3-4 weeks after their treatment, which usually last about 6-18 months. For better results, patients can have multiple treatments, scheduled every 1-2 months.

PRP Therapy FAQ

How much does PRP therapy cost?

The cost of PRP therapy can vary depending on the specific treatment area and your personalized plan. During your consultation, Dr. Childers will assess your needs and provide an accurate cost estimate. We also offer flexible payment options to make your treatment more accessible.

How long will my results last after PRP therapy?

The results of PRP therapy typically last for several months, though this can vary depending on the individual and the area treated. Many patients find that they benefit from ongoing treatments to maintain and enhance results over time.

Is PRP therapy safe?

PRP therapy is considered safe for most people because it uses your body’s own blood, reducing the risk of allergic reactions or complications. However, some patients may experience mild side effects like redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection site. Dr. Childers will review your medical history during your consultation to ensure PRP therapy is right for you.

Does PRP therapy hurt?

PRP therapy involves injections, so some discomfort is possible. Many patients describe the sensation as mild, with a slight pinching or stinging feeling during the injections. Dr. Childers takes care to minimize any discomfort and will discuss options for numbing the area to ensure you're as comfortable as possible during the procedure.
